Suzu began as a quiet little project during an uncertain season of my life.

My TLDR:

  • Quit my corporate 9-to-5 because corporate jargon sucks
  • Went on a cliché (and short-lived) soul-searching journey
  • Tried to discover a new passion by picking up a bunch of different hobbies, hoping that I was magically gifted at one of them

The actual truth:

The harder I looked, the more distant everything felt and somewhere in between thinking "did I make a mistake by quitting???" and "no, I can't circle back to getting all the ducks in a row", I found myself whisking some old matcha. I started whisking matcha because I thought it was easier to learn than my husband's espresso machine. And somehow, I went from whisking to flying to Japan where I spent time with local farmers and saw firsthand the care, stories, and intention behind every bowl.

As someone that has never done anything super courageous, starting Suzu (or even having the idea of starting my own business) was one of the most nerve-wracking things I've ever done. That's why to me, Suzu is more than just a brand. To me, it's about the storytelling from the farmers, the connections I've made along the way, the meaningful yet ordinary moments in our everyday lives.

I want Suzu to embody the idea of tradition meets imagination, where two stories (or bowls of matcha) are never the same. And at the heart of it all, we should all continue dreaming.

Welcome to Suzu! I hope you stay a while!
